The role is a central team role primarily focused on supporting the EMEA Risk Management organization in assessing and monitoring key financial risk and solvency exposures in the region, and reporting these to the EMEA Risk Committee, the board of directors, Corporate Risk Management and the Central Bank of Ireland as the supervisor for the Company. The role holder will work with the relevant legal-entity/sub-regional Chief Risk Officers and teams to support them in performing their equivalent duties efficiently and consistently, with particular focus on the entities in Ireland and Europe.

This is a great opportunity for someone to gain exposure both to ALM / investments and risk management in an insurance context. It is a varied and challenging role, with significant potential for professional development, and you will also be expected to actively participate in ongoing projects / initiatives outside of your ‘BAU’ work.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support capital and liquidity stress testing as required by Group Risk and Treasury standards, with inputs from legal-entity and sub-regional Risk, Actuarial and Finance; facilitate reporting to the ALM Working Group, ALM Steering Committee, and Capital Management Committee. Identify and lead on enhancements to the frameworks as required.
  • Lead the setting of macro-economic stress testing assumptions for the region’s Own Risk & Solvency Assessments (ORSAs), in collaboration with the legal-entity CROs and Corporate Risk Management. Review, understand and challenge the results of the ORSA/stress testing projections.
  • Perform analysis of own solvency needs for the Solvency II entities in a consistent manner with support from the legal-entity Risk teams and aggregate as appropriate, involving the relevant experts from Group Risk Management to address development needs and stay aligned with Enterprise methodologies.
  • Contribute to the quarterly consolidated risk reporting on credit risk, subsidiary solvency, and the ORSA for EU Group entities; manage appropriate review by senior stakeholders (Corporate, EMEA, subsidiaries).
  • Provide standardised monitoring and analysis of financial market trends, risks, and support CROs to assess impact, in particular on solvency. Recommend region-wide mitigation and hedging strategies.
  • Become the go-to expert for market risk analysis and Solvency II Pillar 1 developments; ensure consistent application by the risk management teams across the region.
  • Involved in the processes related to the identification, analysis and monitoring of emerging risks, in particular climate/environmental, economic and social risks. Contribute to the development of a climate risk scenario analysis framework, including research on current best practice and regulatory requirements, designing scenarios and related processes and interpretation and reporting of results.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Trainee Actuary making good progress through the exams, ideally with majority of exams complete.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral with the ability to explain complex subject matters to both technical and non-technical audiences so that issues are understood quickly, and stakeholders are suitably engaged
  • Ability to deliver robust analysis with utmost diligence and integrity; keeping appropriate records and documentation
  • Creative in developing approximations and build models through various phases; make complex analytical information available from a range of different sources
  • Able to work in a change culture with fast paced developments.
  • Able to work unsupervised, to meet deadlines and produce high-quality deliverables for top-management use; remain focused on the insight required by the business
  • Keen to play a role in EMEA expert-level discussions, working groups etc.
  • Presentation skills, including preparation of communication materials for different audiences
  • Confident and enthusiastic, inquisitive, willing to challenge and influence others at all levels
  • Knowledge of Solvency II framework
  • A broad understanding of Life & Pensions products
