Purpose Of This Role
 
The purpose of the role is to develop and implement a cost effective centralised purchasing strategy for Life reinsurance throughout the Europe Region and to optimise the use of reinsurance for financial management within the Group having due regard for profitability, risk appetite and capital management.   Working closely with the existing Life markets, external reinsurers and the Group Finance team, this role will devise the strategy and implement the platforms and processes for centralising the European reinsurance management function, which will provide the opportunity for leveraging our scale to obtain improved reinsurance terms across our European markets and to implement a reinsurance strategy which reflects the risk appetite, tax and capital management requirements within Europe.
 
The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:
  • Ensuring consistent levels of retention and reinsurance are in place in line with risk appetite for Europe business
  • Optimise use of reinsurance for risk, capital management and profitability objectives
  • Pooling reinsurance risk, negotiation and purchase to ensure best rates, fees and service levels are achieved
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements within Europe
  • Effective relationship with strategic reinsurance partners
  • Determine structure and level of reinsurance needed for new and existing Life products in conjunction with Europe Finance team
  • Keep abreast of developments in financial risk management 
  • Ensure facultative, catastrophe and financial reinsurance is used as appropriate
Ideally candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Extensive understanding of Life insurance products throughout Europe
  • Extensive understanding of market and Group reinsurance strategies
  • Proven ability to innovate using reinsurance to optimise profitability in each of our markets
  • A deep and broad understanding of risk and capital management techniques
  • In depth knowledge of European financial services markets, its wider environmental issues and trends
  • In depth knowledge of European and market regulatory framework
  • Proven track record as a strong negotiator with external suppliers
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural organisation
  • High levels of analytical skills and strategic awareness
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate and influence at senior management level
