This role is a second line role leading the Risk challenge to the 1st line management of these risks. The role reports to the CRO and will suit a commercially minded risk actuary with the personality and skills to help drive interactions with key stakeholders across the organisation to identify and assess key risks/opportunities in a joined up, holistic manner.

The Life Insurance Risk Lead is responsible for reviewing, challenging and catalysing improvements to the management/optimisation of life insurance risks within to ensure they generate value safely.
In addition, the Life Insurance Risk Lead has responsibility along with the Group insurance risk second line function for highlighting, challenging and suggesting mitigation possibilities for insurance risk.


Life Insurance Risk
• Independently review and challenge life insurance risk profile, including, but not limited to longevity risk, mortality risk, morbidity risk, persistency risk and expense risk.
• Review and challenge data, assumptions and modelling approach behind insurance risk, consistent with insurance risk preferences.
• Independently review and challenge the approach to project future insurance risk exposures.

Deal Governance Framework
• Own the Deal Governance Framework on behalf of the CRO, ensuring that the framework is up to date, clear and consistent with delegated authorities.
• Provide advice to business cells on the requirements of the Deal Governance Framework and ensure these requirements are being followed by the 1st line.

Risk Reviews
• Member of Insurance Committee and sub-committees attend meetings and provide challenge on life insurance and other risk-related issues, as well as documenting the review and challenge raised both before and during the meetings.
• Technical input and support to the other second line risk teams for their conduct of risk reviews.
• Thematic reviews of current and emerging life insurance risks, including liaison with other Risk functions elsewhere in the Group.
• Provide risk oversight of key projects which impact financial risks.

Other Governance Frameworks
• Independently review other governance frameworks including, but not limited to pricing, claims management, propositions and broker debt & retention frameworks.
• Challenge business cells on pricing/profitability for material ventures.

Risk Appetites and Preferences
• Review modelled information and challenge whether it is correctly and appropriately represented in risk MI, suggesting and ensuring implementation of improvements where necessary.
• Producing relevant second line, standardised reporting (in conjunction with other second line Risk teams) to Board/Risk Committee on life insurance risks.

Risk Strategy and Implementation
In collaboration with the whole Enterprise Risk team:
• Ensure the company manages all types of insurance risk within agreed statements of risk appetite and agreed risk preferences.
• Ensure that there is reliable and appropriate insurance risk management information across the company and the Risk community.
