To support the CRO in oversight and analysis of operational and financial risk management issues; developing and implementing effective, relevant and appropriate risk management tools, practices and policies; monitoring and reporting on risk exposures; and performing assurance of operational and financial risk activities including outsourced activity. The role involves the development and embedding of all aspects of the risk management framework and associated processes. This role requires the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Key Role Accountabilities
Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of a risk framework which supports effective risk management across the business, including the following key components:
o Risk appetite;
o Risk policies;
o Three lines of defence;
o Risk oversight and assurance;
o Risk assessment measurement, monitoring and assurance; and
o Capital assessment and adequacy.
Contribute to the operational risk capital assessment process, including leading workshops with Risk Owners, providing robust challenge, understanding the model, producing high quality documentation and embedding the process throughout the business functions.
Facilitate and co-ordinate the Risk and Control Self-Assessment process to align the measures and controls with those used in operational risk capital modelling.
Ensuring processes exist, and challenging existing processes, to identify, manage, monitor, measure, mitigate and report on risks including production of cohesive reports on risks faced including but not limited to insurance risk, market risk, operational risk and liquidity risk.
Perform second line risk assurance over key functional areas and processes.
Awareness and analysis of emerging risks, particularly those that may be relevant.
Promote a positive and engaged risk culture.
Support the CRO in providing relevant and informative reporting to key stakeholders including the Management Group, Boards and Committees.
Ensure that risk management is well understood and embedded within the business and that all risk requirements are achieved, whether in respect of business as usual, new transactions and projects or Outsourced Service Providers.
Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Skilled communicator, both oral and written
Good working knowledge of Solvency II
Ability to think critically and provide robust challenge to peers and other stakeholders
Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently
Strong problem solving skills
Good organisational skills with ability to balance several key priorities at once and deliver under pressure
Excellent attention to detail
Specific technical competencies:
Risk management expertise is a strong advantage but not essential
Excellent report-writing and documentation skills with ability to produce high quality reports
Strong technical knowledge and ability
Ability to communicate and present effectively at senior management level
Newly/nearly qualified actuary with experience in risk management and life insurance
Knowledge and appropriate experience in the life insurance industry
