Reporting to the Head of Underwriting (Advanced Solutions), the Underwriter is responsible for handling business opportunities and fostering client relationships throughout the underwriting process. This is a broad role that will suit an individual who enjoys a hands-on challenge and is willing to take on a wide range of tasks including those with a numerical focus.

Our client is looking for:

• a savvy candidate with sound judgment, commercial acumen and excellent analytical skills – numerical, accuracy and attention to detail are a must

• a client centric candidate with excellent communication and negotiation skills

• a candidate who is a team player, who is diligent and takes ownership and pride in their work

• a background in statistics, mathematics, accountancy, engineering or relevant business related discipline

Responsibilities –

Underwriting/ Negotiation:

Responsible for general Underwriting responsibilities and ongoing negotiations as follows:

 Discuss possible structures

 Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessment

 Negotiate terms and conditions

 Regular liaison with various departments within home office

Marketing and Customer Relationship Management:

Ensure effective management of client relationships with both existing and potential clients, both internal and external, as follows:

 Attend industry conferences when appropriate

 Attend client visits and group internal meetings as required

Skills:

 Proven analytical and technical capability with an innovative, creative approach to client solutions

 Leadership potential – willingness to mentor, train and develop team members

 Good attention to detail, accuracy and numerical skills

 A highly organised individual with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – ability to effectively manage internal and external client relationships

 Independent critical thinker – challenges current business practices & thinks outside the box

Person Specification:

 A self-starter with the confidence to operate independently using sound judgement

 Team player: contributes through knowledge sharing

 Ownership: take responsibility and be accountable at all times; ensure high quality work is delivered in a timely manner

 Adaptable & flexible approach – willingness to work long hours during particularly busy times

 Good commercial awareness – ability to understand and explain complex topics in a clear and concise manner

Experience Required:

 Previous experience within a Financial Services company a plus

 Sound understanding of (re)insurance beneficial
