Job Responsibilities
Working together with reserving actuaries, the data engineer will be responsible for:
- Developing, maintaining and refreshing datasets in MSSQL and SSAS tabular.
- Developing and maintaining a variety of SSIS ETL packages.
- Developing and maintaining a variety of SSRS reports to ensure data quality.
- Identifying opportunities to automate manual data processes, improving efficiency, and reducing operational risk.
- Identifying, analysing, and resolving performance issues in SQL Server databases, optimizing queries and system resources to improve efficiency.
- Monitoring and addressing the impacts of the new claims system on data pipelines and structures, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption to actuarial workflows.
- Producing accurate, reliable and timely reports on claim trends, keeping a strong focus on quality, completeness and accuracy of reporting data.
- Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Maths or Business Degree
- Experience with SQL Server database administration
- Intermediate to advanced SQL competency
- Computer literate with strong knowledge of SQL, MS Access, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to create ad-hoc reports using SQL extraction
- Strong SSIS experience with particular emphasis on developing ETL packages
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance practices for data processing and analytics
- Experience of developing, maintaining and running SSRS reports
- Experience of all aspects of SSAS tabular models
- Tableau desktop experience, an advantage
- Strong problem solving, analytical skills and decision-making ability
- Effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Experience with large data sets, data manipulation, and data cleansing
- Strong focus on quality, documentation, attention to detail, completeness and accuracy of reporting data
