Purpose of the Job:
The Risk Function through the Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”) has independent oversight of the enterprise risk management activities including identifying, assessing, measuring and reporting existing and emerging risks. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Risk Actuary is responsible for the quantitative elements within the risk department and plays a leading role in the embedding of the risk management framework throughout the organisation. This role will involve a focus on the technical and actuarial aspects of risk management including capital management, risk appetite, ALM, pricing & underwriting, claims management and reserving.
 
Key Responsibilities | Duties: 
  • Support the embedding of a strong risk culture;
  • Produce high quality reports for the CRO and relevant committees;
  • Provide day to day advice and direction to all business and support units on risk management matters;
  • With the CRO, report on and present to the Executive Risk Committee, the Board Risk Committee and ultimately to the Board on risk management activities at each quarterly meeting;
  • Co-ordinate and supervise elements of the ORSA including: 
    • Capital projections to support Strategy decisions
    • Development and calculation of stress and scenario stress tests
    • Assessment of the appropriateness of the Standard Formula
    • Own Risks Solvency Assessment
    • Review and updating of the Recovery Plan
    • Assessment of Climate Change Risk 
  • Co-ordinate and supervise elements of the Solvency II Reporting requirements: 
    •  Perform the quarterly Solvency Capital calculations using the Standard Formula
    •  Populate quarterly and annual QRTs
    •  Review and update the SFCR and RSR Reports 
  • Take ownership of the Company’s internal modelling: 
    • Annual review and update of model parameters
    • Ensure governance processes are appropriately followed and data quality standards are met
    • Development and calculation of stress and scenario stress tests
    • Identify areas of improvement for the model
    • Promote the use of the model in strategic decision making 
  • Carry out a Peer Review of the Actuarial Claims Reserves each quarter: 
  • Contribute to the development of the Recovery Indicators, Risk Appetite Statements and the Risk Management Framework: 
  • Supporting and developing qualitative and quantitative aspects of risk review and risk reporting, including; 
    • Review and challenge of risk and control assessments;
    • Development, monitoring and reporting on Key Risk Indicators across the organisation;
    • Review and challenge of financial risks including Reserving, Pricing and Claims
    • Monitor the business implementation of, and compliance with the Board approved Risk Policies; 
  • Evaluate and interpret key risk information;
  • Support external reviews as required;
  • Other duties as required by the CRO 
Technical and Educational Competencies
  • Actuary with a minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience
  • Non-life insurance experience desirable
  • Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
  • Strong Excel skills. Word, PowerPoint are essential
  • Prior experience with reserving and capital modelling are desirable 
Non-Technical Competencies:
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to improve and create new processes to meet changing Company and Regulatory requirements
  • Highly analytical; methodical problem solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet tight reporting deadlines
  • Self-motivated with an ability to excel in a team based environment
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the business
