Job Summary
  
Working in the Underwriting department of a  General Insurance Company in  Ireland.  The key purpose of this role is to provide pricing recommendations and actuarial support to the CUO and Line of Business Heads. This role reports directly to the Chief Pricing Actuary and will be focussed mainly on the following areas:
  • Leading a team of pricing actuaries and analysts to deliver and develop effective pricing strategies and tools in support of business objectives
  • To lead technical pricing projects across multiple lines of business to enhance the company's  technical pricing capability
  • To support Market Facing business units and Technical Underwriters on pricing decisions
  • To deliver monthly reporting on key forward looking profitability indicators and business flows
  • To maintain and improve appropriate MI capabilities to improve available insight and analysis
  • To represent the pricing and underwriting area at relevant cross-functional events as well as at external events where required
Your Role
  
As a manager in the pricing team, your main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
  • Making pricing recommendations to Line of Business heads and underwriters to support portfolio management including insight into business and risk selection
  • Participating in and leading pricing projects and reviews including the design, testing and maintenance of pricing models and tools
  • As a senior member of the pricing team, help to mentor and develop more junior team members including direct reports
  • Development of improved business performance measurements and improved MI capability
  • Providing support to management for strategic planning
  • Leveraging best practice from across the Group to deliver improvements to Ireland BU
  • Compliance with Group policies and procedures
  • Under general direction, support the pricing of new/renewal business, development of effective pricing/rating structures and development of strategies in support of business objectives

Skills and qualifications relevant for the role include:
  • Qualified actuary with several years’ experience in GI pricing Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics or Sciences
  • Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
  • Strong statistical modelling and scenario-testing skills, including competence with Emblem and Radar pricing software
  • Strong Excel skills; VBA, SAS, R studio, WTW Radar, WTW Emblem and other technical skills are desirable
  • Highly motivated, demonstrates initiative and able to work independently
  • Highly analytical; methodical problem solving ability
  • Commercially aware
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • People management skills and experience a definite advantage
  • Developing business relationships within Product Underwriting and with Distribution, Actuarial, Finance, IT, Claims to grow revenue and profit
  • Consults closely with all parties on the development of rating methodologies
